Weekly Updates

July 18, 2018 – Remember when your parents told you, “Good things come to those who wait”? For Fiberhood B the wait is almost over!

Last week the splicers were busy working on the cable at our cabinet in B. Those big coils of fiber cable are all organized, labeled, and connected to an exact slot within the cabinet enabling the system to provide service to your location.  Hats off to the crews that continue to endure the heat so that service can be installed.

While some construction crews were busy working in Fiberhood B, other crews were installing service in Fiberhoods D, C, & E. To keep moving on the project, additional contractors and Mi-Fiber employees were working on the permitting, planning, and engineering for Fiberhoods A, F, & G.

The community of Waukee continues to provide the residents and visitors with great activities and festivals. The Mi-Fiber marketing team pitched their tent at the Waukee Arts Festival on Saturday.

Thank you to all those that stopped by to chat. We had lots of questions about our service, and many people expressed how excited they were for us to be working in their neighborhoods! We are delighted and very grateful to be able to offer service to such an amazing community.

Until next week, hakuna matata!

July 10, 2018 – WOW! The Waukee 4th of July parade was awesome – HUGE crowd, kids with grocery bags full of candy, and no rain! We were so glad we could participate again this year, and we have duly noted that we need to buy more candy for next y

ear. As we were driving in the parade, it was great to hear comments like, “When are you coming to our neighborhood?” and “We love your service!”.

The mi-fiber installation crews are continuing to build out the fiberhoods. We are going full speed ahead with installations in Fiberhoods D, C, and E! In Fiberhood B we are making great progress with boring in conduit, pulling fiber, and preparing to place the electronics.

Fiberhood F is next on the list. We are working with the city to get our plans approved and will then start calling in locates. Be on the lookout for all the flags marking the existing underground utilities!

Have you ever wondered what the different colored markings indicate? If so, here’s the code:

  • RED – electric power lines, cables, conduit, and lighting cables
  • YELLOW – gas, oil, steam, petroleum, or gaseous material
  • ORANGE – communication, alarm or signal lines, cables, or conduit
  • BLUE – potable water
  • GREEN – sewers and drain lines
  • PURPLE – reclaimed water, irrigation, and slurry lines
  • WHITE – proposed excavation limits or route
  • PINK – temporary survey markings, unknown/unidentified facilities

Make plans to attend the Waukee Arts Festival on Saturday, July 14 and stop by the mi-fiber booth (#92). We will be next to the Waukee Public Library. Mi-Fiber will have “freebie” items for the adults and activities for the kids. Hope to see your there!

July 2, 2018 – Time flies when you are building a fiber network! It’s been just over a year since we announced mi-fiber would be providing Internet service to the residents of Waukee and we appreciate your overwhelming response. We are placing cable and hooking up service as fast as we can.

To keep up our pace, we have multiple construction crews, an engineering and planning team, a sales team, and our installation techs working diligently to turn up more Fiberhoods. Currently, the main line fiber is completed in Fiberhoods D, C, and E North with Internet service actively being installed. We are testing service in E South and once testing is complete, we will begin scheduling installs. We are building Fiberhood B and estimate that service will be ready to install by August (weather permitting). Construction in Fiberhood F and Fiberhood A will begin after installations have been scheduled in Fiberhood B.

On the 4th of July, our marketing team will be participating in the parade. Plan on giving us a big wave and watch our Facebook page for our fun parade pictures! On July 14, we will be at the Waukee Arts Festival in Centennial Park. Stop by our booth with the Waukee Public Library for some “COOL” giveaways and games. We are sure you will be a big fan!
A big thank you goes out to Waukee Parks and Recreation for giving mi-fiber the opportunity to sponsor the Mini Sluggers t-ball shirts this year! Waukee is a busy place and we enjoy all the community activities.
